The Lighter Side of Obama’s Ancestry (Or is it?)
2 min readIn a surprising announcement by Ancestry.com, Barack Obama’s mother–who is white, if you weren’t already aware–is believed to be a descended of an African slave. While a definitive link cannot be established, DNA analysis, marriage records, and property records led the researchers of Ancestry.com to believe that Barack Obama could be the 11th great-grandson of John Punch.
John Punch was an indentured servant of Hugh Gwyn, a Virginia planter. Wanting to come to America, he agreed to serve under Hugh Gwyn for a stint as an indentured servant in return for safe passage. But upon his arrival, he and two others (both white) decided that indentured servitude was not going to be fun and they fled. Upon their capture, John Punch was sentenced to serve a life of servitude. The two white men who escaped with him were not given such harsh punishments. This event is believed (by most) to have been the first documented case of an African being legally sanctioned to a life-long punishment of serving a master, also known as slavery.
In the recent weeks, actor Morgan Freeman said the following: (Click for audio.)
They just conveniently forget that Barack had a mama, and she was white — very white American, Kansas, middle of America,” Freeman said. “There was no argument about who he is or what he is. America’s first black president hasn’t arisen yet. He’s not America’s first black president. He’s America’s first mixed-race president.
Now that Barack’s mother has lineage that includes African origin, could it be that finally President Obama will meet the standards of Oscar winner Morgan Freeman?
Stanley Ann Dunham, was white. White as the driven snow. She was so white she got a sunburn standing in front of the TV. John Punch? If you go back 11 generations, the percentage of black in an otherwise all-white line drops to less half of one percent. That makes Barack Obama 50.5% Or as Morgan Freeman said mixed…although it must also be said…pot meet kettle…
None of this flap has anything to do with the upcoming election. Obama and his campaign people are desperate. It’s disgusting. I care not one bit what Obama’s skin color is, rather what is or is not, in his head.
Mixed is the future. As the Borg said: “You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile!’
I’m 50% white, 25% Hispanic, 25% Asian. Being able to wear any of three hats has given me a lot of advantages with folks for whom it matters. And there’s lots of them…
You may have seen that the top name for boys in Texas is a Hispanic name. One day, the Governor will be Ricardo Perry! And a Presidential candidate’s slogan will be: “Si, puedemos!”
Haha, what is history without some Borg?!
Reblogged this on Republican and Democrat Daily.
Is all this not mere gimmicks trying to undermine Obama’s unmistakable African paternity? What do the meddlesome diggers of Obama’s history hope to uncover about his colour more bona fide than his unequivocal African (Kenyan) ancestry? This is a simple fact of history about this 21st Century American legend that does not require any unnecessary debate.
