Was the Civil War inevitable? In simplistic terms, the primary causes of the Civil War were the differences in opinions about the issue of slavery. Could the conflicts between the federal government and the states, and between the North and South, be resolved in some way?

In reply to Paul Zerzan. Yes in a world where the oppressed outnumber the oppressors i.e. on a a plantation any resistance has to be quashed utterly & immediately.. You can call it honor- that's what gang bangers on the corners shooting someone over a diss call it.

To understand the inevitability of this war you must understand the Southern obsession with “honor” and dueling. The North said slavery was evil. This was an insult to Southern “honor” and the South demanded a duel. The South wanted a war. The South insisted on a War. The South got a war. The South lost the war. This is accurately illustrated in the movie “Gone With The Wind”.
