James - I have been trying to learn about my great great Uncle - Captain Thomas W. Connell. I have been reading all of the information I can find, and West Point was so gracious to send me a pretty good amount of documents of his military career (to include his military records). I came across your article "Captain Thomas W. Connell, 9th U.S. Infantry Company C" and it appears that it has a redirect to a WordPress site, but states that the remainder has been deleted. I would really enjoy reading the remainder of the article, if you can send it to me.

Sincerely,

In reply to <a href="https://hankeringforhistory.com/remembering-memorial-day-guest-post/#comment-789">Grant</a>.

Grant,

Having the opportunity to stand on those beaches and overlook Pointe du Hoc, is one of the most memorable times in my life. The day I visited was low tide, so I wondered down on the beach head and walked down about 50 yards into what usually was covered in water. I would be lying if I told I was not overcome with emotion as I turn and looked toward the beach and tried imagine what it was like for those guys trying to take the beach under fire. A very cool experience that I will not soon forget.

I do remember visiting numerous areas of the cemetery, however I do not remember the inscription on the mound. I recall reading some of the notes left in the visitors book that we signed and that was amazing to read, could have spent all day flipping through that. Thanks for the comments.
