When you remember that Showboat, produced in the 1930s, included action based on the law against marriage between blacks and whites, the significance of the 1967 movie becomes more clear. TR really was progressive.

I looked, but I was unable to find anything that said that the two dined together. From what I’ve found though, it seems like the few meetings that they did have were brief. I have the Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, I’ll flip through it and see if anything pops out! 🙂
