Thank you for adding! Especially for the story of Rachel and Newton Knight. There are so many amazing couples out there. :)

Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir -- each an intellectual powerhouse, each helping to charge and inspire the other. Central figures in modern philosophy, and de Beauvoir a pathbreaking author of women's liberation.

Mao Zedong and Jiang Qing -- a couple from the early guerrilla days of Yan'an, Mao became the unifying and transforming figure of modern China, Jiang Qing came to the fore as his partner in the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution (and went to prison for it, after Mao's death).

My favorite from American history is:

Rachel Knight and Newton Knight --

Rachel Knight was a slave woman who (from early childhood) displayed remarkable talents and charisma. Newton Knight, son of a properties slave owner, deserted the Confederate army after Vicksburg.

Together they helped organize an armed anti-Confederate resistance movement in Jones County, Mississippi that created the "Free State of Jones" -- uniting runaway slaves and Confederate deserters into a multi-racial community and fighting force, that went on to play a significant role in post war Reconstruction
